How to Install WordPress theme using FTP:
This is one way that I prefer while installing multiple themes or editing themes. FTP method is helpful when your server security doesn’t allow you to set up theme & plugins from the dashboard. While installing themes from the dashboard is throwing some error. Moreover, FTP system can be regarded as manual WordPress theme installation.
To get started by FTP method to set up the theme, you require to have an FTP software such as FileZilla or your cPanel should allow FTP access from the web panel. Aside from FTP, you require having software like WinRAR to unpack the .zip file.
In FTP system, we remove the theme & upload it right to your themes folder. WordPress themes folder is located under the WP-content folder of your WP directory.
As I discussed above, most of the theme club pack the theme in the .zip format as WordPress helps .zip compression at this moment. So, you require unzipping the theme folder. If you don’t have any such software setup, download the free version of WinRAR from the reliable site and install it. Already installed, right-click on the .zip folder of the theme & select unzip, see screenshot:
Before you get active the theme, you may preview your site with a new form by clicking on Preview. At the moment, preview might not provide the exact things & will give some error, it normally happens. If it’s not your live site, you may activate & see the theme live on your site.
Hence login to your FTP manager & find to WordPress Themes folder or your WordPress installation and upload the unzipped folder directly. So in case, I will direct upload Unzipped folder to my server.
That’s final, and now your theme is uploaded on your server. Now it’s the time to review & activate the theme.
Once you have set up the theme using dashboard or FTP method, you can regularly browse all installed themes from your WordPress dashboard. Go to Appearance > Themes, and you will view a list of installed themes on your blog. Now You can activate the theme directly from here.
How to uninstall WordPress themes:
So by now, we have studied how we can install WordPress theme. Now, it’s time to uninstall unnecessary WordPress themes. Alike to WordPress theme installation, there are 2 methods by which you can uninstall WordPress theme.
As shown in above Screenshot, you can browse to Appearance > Themes & click on to uninstall any theme. I recommend, never delete your live theme right. Switch to the additional theme first and then deletes existing themes.
You can further login to your FTP Manager and find to Word Press Themes and uninstall the theme which you would like to remove. Personally, I see Dashboard system is the best way to get rid of unused themes.
If you are switching from any WordPress theme whose SEO features you are applying, don’t ignore to export & import it to your new one. Or you can alternatively, use multiple plugins like WordPress SEO to import SEO settings from the running Theme.
